Duet

The house finches in the backyard have been pairing up for the season. It's nice that these drab-colored birds can have such beautiful, heartfelt songs.  I attempted to sketch these two several times as they flirted and darted amongst the neighbor's lilacs.  Drawing birds from life doesn't allow for much detail, but the immediacy (and challenge) of it is hard to beat.

I'm a bird lover, but haven't mastered drawing them yet...you've inspired me. I love this beautiful sketch.

Beautiful sketch especially as they don't stay still for long!

Wow I couldn't do that! You managed to catch so much detail. Really nice sketch!

Thanks, all. :)

The sketches were quite rough, sometimes just barely connected circles, but since I've drawn house finches before and am quite familiar with them, it's just a matter of filling in the rest from memory.

Lovely birds and lovely drawing. And indeed, it is hard to draw free hand birds that are so busy feeding and twittering.
